Jonathan Stone
Technology Solutions Executive
Kelser Corporation

At the heart of many of today’s high-value business applications are large repositories of business data stored on rotating magnetic disk. Although CPU performance is critical to the performance of many of these applications, I/O performance, or the ability to read and write data to and from the disk, is frequently even more critical. The more time an application spends waiting for data to be read from or written to disk, the more its performance will improve if I/O can happen with less delay.

Traditional storage arrays have scaled for performance by spreading the data over more disk drives and by buffering reads and writes with cache memory. If data is read from cache, the delay is usually much shorter than if it has to be read from disk. Scaling a disk array for performance by increasing disk spindles or adding cache, inflates the capital cost of the array, and increases the OpEx through increased requirements for datacenter floor space, power and cooling.

The 3rd generation of 100% flash based storage devices, such as the products from Violin Memory, have discarded traditional disk array designs, and are built from the ground up to take advantage of flash memory, making I/O significantly faster than on traditional array solutions. In some applications, especially those based around Oracle and SQL databases, the improvement is so dramatic that some of the database servers in the environment are no longer needed. Saving database servers yields direct savings in expensive DBMS licenses. Unlike performance improvements due to application code optimization, swapping spinning disk storage for a 3rd generation 100% flash array involves no application code changes.

In partnership with Violin Memory, Kelser is uniquely positioned help our customers assess the value and potential savings from introducing Violin’s 3rd generation 100% flash based array in to their environment.

To learn more about Violin Memory and to see a demo, please contact your Kelser Sales Representative, or Jonathan Stone (jstone@kelsercorp.com).

For Immediate Release

East Hartford, CT – April 13, 2012:

On Tuesday, September 18, 2012 Kelser Corporation will hold their annual charity golf tournament in support of the American Lung Association. Partners, vendors, friends and employees will gather at the Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, CT for a friendly golf competition all in the name of charity.

Hosting the “Kelser Charity Challenge” for the 19th time, Kelser continues its joint efforts with the American Lung Association to fight for clean air and better lungs. For over 30 years, the company has been an active member of the philanthropic community. Recently the Kelser Foundation was established to formally expand Kelser’s charity initiatives.

In creating their own charity challenge, Kelser is able to raise funds and gather donations that will benefit directly the ALA. In the spirit of the ALA, the annual challenge is also meant to inspire a healthy lifestyle starting with healthy lungs.

The golf tradition continues in 2012 with several competing teams who challenge the other participants as well as lung disease, asthma, COPD and secondhand smoke. Players will be rewarded with lunch, cocktails, and excellent company. In addition to the satisfaction of fighting for clean air, select winners will get prizes for the best scores, including closest to pin, longest drive, hole-in-one, and more.

The fun, games, and enjoyment serve as complimentary gifts to the support Kelser gives to the American Lung Association. This past year, Kelser raised $9,000 dollars from donations and fundraising efforts. The ALA mission is to improve lung health through education, advocacy, and research. With Kelser as their fellow supporter, the ALA is one step closer to getting a hole in one for better lungs.

The hard-earned $9,000 check will be presented to the president of the American Lung Association, Jeffrey Seyler at the end of the September event by Kelser President, Barry Kelly. The donations from the golf tournament are put towards research, funds and advocacy that help people suffering from lung difficulties fight for their air. The ALA says that “when you golf for the American Lung Association you are helping 35 million people living with lung disease” and this statistic alone is why Kelser continues to be an avid supporter.

Together, they make it possible for people to celebrate every breath, and the fight keeps on going. Join Kelser for another great charity event in September!

East Hartford, CT – March 5, 2012:

Kelser Corporation, a leading provider of technology solutions to the insurance and financial services sectors, today announced that it is taking the lead in redefining the modern data center with versatile new server products from Intel. Kelser will be among Intel’s primary integration allies that will introduce the Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600/1600 product families, designed to meet the diverse and demanding needs of today’s computing environments.

This new family of Intel server processors enables Kelser to provide greater value to its clients by helping reduce data center cost and complexity, and by employing automation to improve service, efficiency, and agility.

Howard Steinman, Vice President of Sales at Kelser Corporation states, “As a solutions provider, it is our responsibility to understand our client’s infrastructure requirements and help design optimized solutions. Intel’s new family of processors is a technological leap forward and provides an unequalled combination of performance and flexibility necessary to support current and future datacenter strategy.”

For even the most demanding environments, the Intel Xeon processor E5-2600/1600 product families1 deliver an optimum combination of performance, built-in capabilities, and cost-effectiveness. These processors are designed to meet evolving data center needs with up to 80 percent higher performance2 over earlier processor generations, as well as improved energy efficiency, offering more cores, more cache, and increased memory capacity.

The Intel Xeon processor E5-2600/1600 product families feature second-generation Intel® Turbo Boost Technology 2.05, which delivers more speed when it’s needed for peak workloads. Another performance-enhancement feature, Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions (Intel® AVX), can double performance6 in applications employing floating point or vector computations. To keep processor cores most productive, Intel® Data Direct I/O Technology enables direct data transfers from storage to cache, instantly moving data to wherever it is needed and increasing I/O performance by up to 2.3 times7.

The Intel Xeon processor E5-2600/1600 product families derive more performance value from every watt using an enhanced Intel® Intelligent Power Technology8 for optimum balance between performance and energy consumption. And, the Intel® Data Center Manager plugs into existing management frameworks so that IT staff can monitor and manage power and thermal status for individual or multiple servers.

To reinforce security, Intel has based its new server processors on a solid foundation of encryption standards, trusted resources and standards-based protocols for protecting systems and sensitive data on shared infrastructure. To extend security across the network without significantly compromising performance, Intel® Advanced Encryption Standard – New Instructions (Intel® AES-NI)9 accelerates and strengthens encryption to protect all users and assets.

The Intel Xeon processor E5-2600/1600 product families employ Intel® Trusted Execution Technology (Intel® TXT)10 to establish trusted pools of resources so that computing environments are better able to protect themselves from malware or other attacks at or before launch.
