Press Release: Kelser Charity Challenge Helps Launch New Hospital for Special Care Center for Memory Disorders

New Britain, Conn. - The 21st Kelser Charity Challenge, a golf tournament taking place on Tuesday, September 19th at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, is raising money for a new program at New Britain-based Hospital for Special Care that is dedicated to developing new ways to treat Alzheimer's disease and other memory disorders.

Currently in early planning stages, Hospital for Special Care's Center for Memory Disorders will treat patients living with a variety of memory disorders ranging from dementia to memory loss due to normal aging. The hospital doesn't currently have a dedicated practice for Alzheimer's and memory disorders, though many of its physicians have a great deal of experience in related fields.

The Kelser Charity Challenge is hosted by Kelser Corporation, a technology consulting firm based in Glastonbury, and has raised more than $275,000 for charity. For the past 18 years, the tournament has benefitted the American Lung Association. Hospital for Special Care is a client of Kelser’s and the opportunity to support a new initiative dedicated to memory disorders was too good to pass up.

“Many of our staff have family members or loved ones who have been affected by Alzheimer’s, including my brother Bruce who founded Kelser,” says Kelser CEO and President Barry Kelly. “Through working with Hospital for Special Care as their IT vendor, we’ve seen the creative and impactful work they do and we couldn’t be happier to dedicate this event to helping them expand to treating a horrible disease that has affected many of us.”

In 2016, the Kelser Charity Challenge raised $27,000 for the American Lung Association and expects a comparable total this year for Hospital for Special Care.
