Network design and onsite support keeps PGA event on track

Virtual Private Network (VPN) provides stable data access and file sharing for the Travelers Championship.

Each year, the Travelers Championship comes to the Hartford area for one week needing IT infrastructure and support for the equivalent of a 600 person business.

The catch? It all has to be virtually invisible to TV cameras, players and fans, nothing can be permanent, and it has to disappear without a trace.

The Championship’s project managers are responsible for the Tournament staff and their communication and interaction with player, crowd and media relations as well as making sure volunteers, vendors, emergency and transportation crews and sales team are all operating as planned. Kelser is called on each year to design, set up and break down a full-service but temporary VPN – the IT backbone of the tournament.

Given the environment, a nationally televised outdoor event with no room for error, we provide engineers onsite every day 24/7 in order to ensure smooth running and to respond to unforeseen issues or deviations from the event’s planned operations. This arrangement also saves the tournament the significant cost of purchasing and installing management software.

Says Travelers Championship, Executive Director, Nathan Grube, “Kelser has mastered the intricacies of our unique setup as a small business. They continually come up with new and innovative ways to solve our most challenging issues. Their support team could not be more responsive or efficient.”

Our team comes equipped with the industry’s newest and most reliable technology. Should lightning strike (again), our local warehouse provides access to multiple backups of every piece of equipment we use to assure this stop of the tour does not skip a beat. Senior Consulting Engineer, Andrew Tyler says, “If I’m there for a week and people still don’t know my name, I consider it a success.”
