Reports to: Manager, Help Desk

The Onsite Help Desk Engineer will be the primary backbone of our client support operations at locations in Avon, Waterbury, and Glastonbury CT. This role will deliver exceptional technical assistance and customer service while ensuring that IT infrastructure runs smoothly.

The Onsite Help Desk Engineer will be the go-to expert for troubleshooting hardware and software issues, managing computer systems, and providing outstanding customer service to end users. When not at a client site, the Onsite Help Desk Engineer will serve as Level 1 technical support for Kelser customers. This includes the assignment of service tickets, escalations, status updates including client and staff follow-up. Basic troubleshooting skills and familiarity with Windows operating systems and maintenance principles are a must. Experience with hands-on support, focused on routine technical support and proactive management/maintenance of systems is also key. This position is external customer facing, so communication and customer service skills are extremely important.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide hands-on technical support for desktop and mobile devices, ensuring optimal performance of all operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux
  • Troubleshoot software issues and perform hardware repairs to keep systems running efficiently
  • Manage computer networking tasks, including VPN setup, firewall configurations, and DNS management
  • Administer Active Directory for user management and permissions, Group Policy Objects (GPO) for system configurations
  • Utilize tools such as ConnectWise Ticketing System, JAMF MDM, Sophos
  • Conduct regular analysis of IT infrastructure to identify areas for improvement
  • Availability on a scheduled basis for possible off-hours and/or on-call assignments
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve help desk tickets promptly
  • Maintain documentation of IT processes, configurations, and troubleshooting steps
  • Review/prioritize support requests.
  • Attend and comprehend training
  • Attain certifications as required
  • Other duties aligned with skillset, as directed by Kelser staff

Technical Requirements:

  • Operating systems (Windows Server and Desktop, Apple, VMware vSphere/ESXi)
  • Microsoft infrastructure (Active Directory, remote desktop, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, M365)
  • Basic network application services, plant, data link
  • Storage/data protection (backup and disaster recovery)
  • Security (managed anti-malware, OS and 3rd party patching)
  • Email (Microsoft 365 support and anti-spam/anti-virus)

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Troubleshooting, problem solving, and analytical skills, including root-cause determination
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Associates degree or experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or combination of education and experience
