Press Release: Kelser Charity Challenge Supports Hospital for Special Care's Center for Cognitive Health for Third Consecutive Year
The 23rd Annual Kelser Charity Challenge will take place at Indian Hill Country Club in Newington, Connecticut, on September 17, 2019, to benefit the Hospital for Special Care's Center for Cognitive Health. The golf tournament--which is currently open for registration and sponsorship--is organized by Glastonbury-based technology consulting firm Kelser Corporation and will also feature a silent auction, dinner reception and "heli drop" in which a helicopter drops golf balls onto the course.
Over the past two years, the Kelser Charity Challenge has raised more than $43,000 for the Center for Cognitive Health, which launched last fall. "The Kelser Charity Challenge has allowed us to raise the funds that we needed to really invest in developing the model for care for our Center for Cognitive Health," said Hospital for Special Care Vice President of Development & Communications Wendy DeAngelo in an interview in July on FOX 61 News.
"What we're able to do is bring together a multi-disciplinary team of neuropsychologists, rehabilitation psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists who work together to identify and assess a patient and their cognitive functioning, and begin to address and delay some of the symptoms of dementia and Alzheimer's to help people function at home as independently as possible for as long as possible."
"It has been very rewarding for us to have been involved in supporting the Center for Cognitive Health since it was conceived in 2017 through its launch last year," says Kelser Vice President of Relationships Devin Kelly. "Many of us have experienced first-hand what Alzheimer’s does not just to the person living with it, but to those family and friends who interact with them. That’s why this tournament is especially important to us because it has such a tangible impact, helping patients and their families navigate incredibly difficult memory disorders right here in Connecticut." Kelly's uncle and Kelser Corporation founder Bruce Kelly is living with Alzheimers.
For the second year in row, the Kelser Charity Challenge will raise additional funds through a heli drop, sponsored by Northeast Helicopters of Ellington, CT, and Kelser CTO Jonathan Stone who is a rated commercial helicopter pilot. In an aviation spin on a 50/50 raffle, individuals can purchase numbered golf balls which will be dropped from the helicopter onto the green. The person with the ball closest to the hole wins half the pot and the other half goes to the Hospital for Special Care. Video from last year's tournament captures the excitement of this spectacle.
The field of 144 players in the tournament typically fills up, and there are still some spaces available. The tournament is also seeking sponsors at a number of levels.
